Community Life Center Policies

KidsKamp is a ministry of Shades Mountain Baptist Church that provides a summer experience for children and their families. By learning and playing through weekly theme materials, children form relationships with new friends and recognize ways that God has made them for a purpose.

Our staff are trained according to the Child Protection Policy of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. To read more about that policy, please click here

In addition to Child Protection, we have created additional measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 for the summer of 2022. As with everything we have experienced over the past year, these measures are subject to change at any point. These include continued mask usage, frequent use of hand sanitizer, social distancing, kampers in cohorts according to current grade, and limiting interaction across age groups. Each group remains separated from large groups and follows an updated schedule so that one group uses a shared space (like the gym) at a time. In between groups there are addition cleaning and sanitization efforts performed by staff to also hedge against sharing germs.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE COST OF A WEEK OF KIDSKAMP?

KidsKamp is $225 per week, per child. In addition, a family administrative fee of $30 will be assessed after your registration. There is a $25 per week, per child non-refundable/non-transferable deposit due at the time of registration. The remaining balance ($200 per week, per child) is due on May 1 for camps in June (weeks 1-5), and June 1 for camps in July (weeks 6-9).

ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS FOR KIDSKAMP?

Unfortunately, we do not offer discounts for siblings or partial week attendance at this time. However, we do have a limited number of scholarships available to help with financial hardships. To get more information on scholarships or to apply, please email Felecia Dewing at fdewing@shades.org.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A WEEK OF KIDSKAMP?

If you need to cancel a registration, you must give a two weeks' notice. Any paid balance may be transferred to another registration but the deposit will not be refunded. To make a cancellation, please contact Beth Haley at bhaley@shades.org.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ON THE WAITLIST?

It is not uncommon for KidsKamp registration to fill quickly. We have a waitlist available to collect information and time-stamps so that we can appropriately fill registration vacancies should a family need to cancel. We make contact with waitlisted families as soon as a cancellation is made. You are welcome to call and check your child's status on the waitlist by calling the Community Life Center at (205)823-2000.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

KidsKamp is for children who have completed kindergarten through 6th grade. There are no exceptions to age/grade requirements.

HOW LONG IS A KIDSKAMP DAY?

KidsKamp program hours are from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. We do offer additional hours from 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at no additional charge. To see a sample of the daily schedule, please click here

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

A summer is meant to be filled with all of the fun things, but not all of the fun things belong at camp. No toys or devices should be brought to KidsKamp. You can, however, bring a towel and swimsuit (on Water Wednesdays) or a change of clothes. Also, please send your child in comfortable shoes, with a heel strap (no flip flops) so they can run and play freely. We will provide sunscreen and bug spray throughout the day, as activities require. We will also provide an afternoon snack for your child and a drink. Please send your child with a morning snack and a lunch each day. This lunch will need to be kept in your child's cubby, so plan for no fridge or microwave - just like you would send to school.
