Missions Overview

Missional Living

Missional Living can mean different things to different people...and it can be seen in simple heartfelt conversations and in answering the call to be a missionary.  Ultimately, Missional Living at Shades is here to provide catalytic experiences that energize a missionary movement in Birmingham and beyond.

"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age" Matthew 28:18-20.

Missions Partners

At Shades, we aim to LIVE SENT in all that we do. Whether it's connecting with someone at the ballfield and sharing the gospel, volunteering with local ministry partners or traveling domestically and across the globe, there's so many things you can do to get involved. It's truly one of the most rewarding things you can do! Trips with our missions partners are being added to the calendar regularly. Check out the link below for a complete list.

Mission Projects

If you aren't quite ready to travel, we have local projects throughout the year where you and your family can serve. Click the links below to check out some of our local partners.

Special Missions Opportunities

Summer 2022:

The Foundry is looking for volunteers to provide meals and to serve as mentors.

A home-cooked meal, take-out, hot dogs on the grill; Weekends at The Foundry is the perfect time to provide a special meal for the participants in our Recovery Program. We are looking for volunteers every Saturday and Sunday through the summer to provide a weekend meal.

One of the best ways for you to make an impact in someone's life today is by becoming a mentor. Mentors create a bond with those starting an addiction-free journey by sharing life together over a meal.

Email Brandy at bsuns@foundryministries.com to sign up or for more information.

Summer 2023:

Our friends Art & Deb Nilsen need a couple extra hands at their camp in the Azores. They need help over two months with maintenance, general up-keep and cleaning while their son and daughter-in-law are stateside. Retirees, college students or teachers off for the summer could be a perfect fit. Email Shelley, srehberg@shades.org to get connected with Art.
