The cooler weather, the change of seasons, the return of SEC football remind us that things are moving along. Take a look at this week's church update!
Hello Church!
This past Sunday I had the privilege of being at McElwain Baptist Church for a special day as they celebrated their 125th anniversary! 125 years of ministry and kingdom work—that’s pretty amazing! I, along with Tim Wheat, Jonathan Payne, and Mike Lazenby were there to help commemorate McElwain’s legacy of life-giving, life-changing work in their community. A lot of life happens in 125 years—lots of weddings, funerals, baptisms, mission trips, youth camps, building projects, church suppers, vacation bible schools … lots of people coming to know the Lord. It was a great moment to be able to celebrate these things with the McElwain family and to tell them face-to-face how excited we are about partnering with them in their next chapter.
This Sunday at Shades is Parent Dedication! For everyone around here, this is a favorite service as we set apart parents of new babies, pray for them, and commit to support them as they raise their children to follow Jesus. Usually this is part of Sunday morning worship, but this time the dedication will be a separate service at 4:00 in the Worship Center. Come if you can, but you can also watch via livestream. Either way, it’s pretty special to see the faces of the next generation already in church! To keep making that possible, we need your help. We still need about six more volunteers for THIS Sunday and more for the other Sundays this fall. If you want to serve in our Preschool Ministry, once a week or even once a month, go to shades.org/volunteer to sign up. Try it—I promise you will be blessed!
And this Tuesday October 6th is our next PowerLunch. The format has changed—you provide your own lunch and participate via Zoom--but the objective is the same: we want to find ways to improve our leadership skills and maybe get some Spam gear during the giveaways. Gather your co-workers and grab your yogurt; I’ll share a message called “Welcome to Management: How to Grow from Top Performer to Excellent Leader.” Things will start at noon and we’ll finish up by 12:35. Go to shades.org/powerlunch to register!
Folks, the cooler weather, the change of seasons, the return of SEC football remind us that things are moving along. What has seemed like a long, lonely stretch for many of us will not last forever. God is sovereign and in control of ALL things ALL the time. Praise the Lord! This Sunday we will continue our study of Job and God’s faithfulness; it’s going to be a great day of worship together. Can’t wait to see you, either in-person or online!
