Hello Church!

I want to say thank you to all of you who have signed up to volunteer for Vacation Bible School! You’ve heard me say for years that VBS is the biggest outreach event of the year for our church. Hundreds of children come to our campus for a week of fun and in the process learn about God’s grace and love. For many of them, it’s their first time to open a Bible or hear the Gospel. It’s a BIG week! And we still need more of you to participate so that things run smoothly. So if you want to make an eternal investment into the lives of today’s children and tomorrow’s leaders all the while having an incredible amount of fun, head to our website at shades.org/vbs and sign up to serve!

Right now, we are in the middle of a Week of Prayer for the pastor search process. Everyday this week from 6:00 in the morning till 10:00 at night, our people are praying. I have to say, it’s was pretty neat to see those 224 time slots fill up and know that the entire Shades family feels strongly about covering the search process in prayer. Whether you were able to pick a specific time or you are just faithfully praying at 8:15 am or pm, keep lifting up those 4 Ps:  

  • Your pastors: Janice and I feel your prayers and I’m confident our next pastor does too!
  • The process: The search committee feels a great responsibility and we want them to feel supported, encouraged, and ready for the long haul.
  • The personnel: The Shades staff.  Our staff loves this church.  Please keep praying for them during this time of transition.
  • And the people: Keep praying for one another, for unity and love and excitement as we see what the Lord does here at Shades over the next few months and beyond.

Hey, our next Discover Shades will be on Sunday, May 23rd at 10:30 … IN-PERSON! Discover Shades is great chance to learn more about our church, to connect with our staff, to ask questions, and if you’re ready … to join the Shades family! We are so glad to be able to meet together face to face with folks who have been visiting and are ready to get more information about the mission and ministries at Shades. So, if you know of people who are new to Shades, please encourage them to sign up. Lunch and childcare are provided. And signing up is easy; just go to shades.org/discover to register.

During these last few weeks--on Sundays in worship, at special events, at every sort of gathering--I’ve observed how happy our people seem being together. I love it! We are made for community, for doing life together … the fun things and the hard things … supporting our church family in it all. You are a great blessing to each other and a blessing to me. Thank you! This Sunday, I will continue in our sermon series on Pressure and we will be looking at the 13th chapter of Numbers. I look forward to seeing you—either in person or online!
