Years ago, I read a story about a guy who started a new job and determined that he would make sure that his coworkers would know that he was a Christian. For the next several weeks, he showed up early, stayed late. He would finish projects before the deadline. He kept his desk clutter free and organized. He responded to stressful situations with optimism and resolve. He was courteous, professional, and helpful. He knew that others were watching so day after day he lived this way believing that they would see Christ in him.
Finally, after some weeks, a co-worker approached him and said, “I have figured it out.” “I have been watching you and notice you are different, and I have finally figured out why!” The young man was excited because he was thinking that his diligence would finally point someone to Christ. His co-worker then responded, “You are a vegetarian … aren’t you! That is why you are different!”
Ok, admittedly that is probably some made up story from a preacher’s illustration file, but the point is well taken. For others to know who Jesus is, we can’t just expect them to figure it out. We must tell them about Jesus! In the sermon this week, Pastor George asked a question, “How will they hear if no one tells them?” For believers, our lifestyle and behaviors matter as they are to reflect the life of Jesus but the only way for people to really know Jesus is for us to tell them about Jesus. It’s not enough to simply “show” the Gospel of Jesus (acts of kindness, high morals, integrity, etc.), we are also to “share” the Gospel of Jesus.
This week, would you consider stepping into a conversation with just one person in which you can bring Jesus into the conversation! Would you take it to a deeper level and not just mention Jesus but ask them if they have a relationship with Jesus? Make this week more than just impressing others at work, make it about telling others about Jesus! Everyone can tell someone!
May you live sent today!
