I love Assessments. Tools such as Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, DISC, Enneagram, etc. can be extremely helpful in understanding why we do what we do, but it’s easy to cross the line from self-assessment to assessing others. We can convince ourselves we look pretty good when we compare our best to the short comings of others. In reality, if the goal is perfection, we all fall short.
The law was given to the Children of Israel, by God, to help them know how to live. The more they tried to follow the law, the more obvious it became that it wasn’t possible to obey every single detail. All of the energy and efforts of people to try to “do” enough, wasn’t enough “in the beginning” and it isn’t enough today. Pastor George shared that the law isn’t the problem, we are the problem.
Jesus came to earth for this very reason. He lived a life without sin, then gave his life as a sacrifice for our sin. He paid in full the past due fines our sin had created. Our sin problem, was willingly handled by Jesus. What Jesus has done for us, we could never do for ourselves. Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Being saved begins with a willingness to confess which is a fancy way of saying “honestly admit.” So if we honestly admit Jesus is Lord – we’re saying, we are NOT lord. We aren’t perfect and we need help.
Do you need help? Does anyone around you need help? No matter how good we look in the eyes or our families, neighbors, workmates or bosses; the only eyes that matter are Gods. Consider honestly admitting where you are today and acknowledging your need for Jesus.
May you live sent.
