We have a different worship schedule this Sunday in observance of Labor Day, ongoing conversations with McElwain are progressing, and we have volunteer needs in advance of our next phase of our Better Together plans coming Sept. 13. It's all covered in this week's update. Take a look!
Hey, church family!
Over the past month there have been some exciting things happening! As a church, we’re working together to send transformed people to influence their world for Christ. Throughout August we were all a part of the ONE Month emphasis, praying for our neighborhoods, schools, people that we’re close to who are far from God, and for one moment to be able to share the Good News of Jesus with someone in a life changing way. The way that you took ahold of these opportunities and the stories that we’ve heard about how God has been at work is so encouraging!
We’re also still in conversations with McElwain Baptist Church about the possibility of adoption and establishing a significant Gospel presence in the East side of the city. I could not be more excited about the potential in this new work! The McElwain Church family had a townhall meeting last Sunday to continue processing this transition, and will hold a business meeting for a formal vote in the next few weeks. We are continuing our due diligence efforts, and will keep you updated as more firm plans develop.
But, this weekend is a holiday weekend! I hope that you’re making plans for some rest and time with family or friends as you celebrate Labor Day! As a reminder, because of the holiday weekend, we will only have one worship service this Sunday at 10 a.m. both in-person and online. With no Worship Care, Children’s Worship, or Sunday School, we’ll all be in one room together for worship.
Then the following Sunday is one that we’ve been planning for and anticipating for months! On September 13 we will begin a new Sunday morning schedule with worship and Sunday School at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. For all of the details on what is available for each age group and when, just go to shades.org/together. And, while you’re there, I'd like to ask you to please take an extra step and sign up to volunteer with our preschool ministry. I’m thankful for the response that we’ve had so far, but we need many, many more volunteers to sustain our ministry plans in the weeks ahead. For more details and to jump in to help, again just go to shades.org/together.
God is at work, church family! I look forward to seeing you this Sunday for worship at 10 a.m. as Jacob Simmons preaches and we worship together. I’ll see you either in person or online!
