In his weekly update, Pastor Danny encourages to carry a spirit of gratitude with us this Thanksgiving week. He also covers some exciting upcoming events here at Shades -- take a look!
Happy Thanksgiving, Church!
Don’t forget that this Sunday, the 29th, Dr. Charles T. Carter, Shades Pastor Emeritus, will join us for worship at 10:30. It will be classic Dr. Carter as he brings his annual message Come Before Winter. He will teach from the book of 2 Timothy and deliver a powerful call to action for all believers. You won’t want to miss it. And Just a reminder about Sunday: no Sunday School this week, but there will be Worship Care and Children’s Worship. We could actually still use a few volunteers this week in preschool—if you are willing to serve with the little ones, reach out directly to our Minister to Preschool, Sarah Kent at skent@shades.org. She will be thrilled to hear from you!
To kick off the month of December, we’ll have PowerLunch next Tuesday, the 1st. We will be online again with lots of giveaways (including SPAM) and another message from Ryan Hawk’s book Welcome to Management: How to Grow from Top Performer to Excellent Leader … this week we’ll be looking at “Leading your Team.” Just go to shades.org/powerlunch to register. Once you do, you’ll get an email with a Zoom link and a notes page. And you know, even if you are not going into an office these days, you can still coordinate with co-workers and say, “Let’s do lunch” and do PowerLunch together virtually!
Folks, Christmas season is upon us. There is non-stop holiday music on Magic 96, Christmas tree lots are popping up, and peppermint mocha creamer is already flying off the shelves. This has been a crazy year for most people in our community and around the country--people everywhere need the good news of Jesus’ birth more than ever and we want to be a part of that. With Hope is Alive we have a unique opportunity to influence our world for Christ in a whole new way. Invite your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family to watch on Sunday, December 6th at 5:00 on FOX6. It will be an hour of a cornucopia (just thought I would throw in that Thanksgiving image!) of inspirational music and storytelling with Shades members and recording artists Drew and Ellie Holcomb. An invitation to watch this special television event is a great way to share the hope, the grace, and steadfast love of God with someone in your life! Go to hopeisaliveshow.com for more information on ways to share the show details through social media. Hope IS Alive—spread the word!
Church, no matter how you are celebrating Thanksgiving this year—with a small group of family or friends, in your driveway, or via Skype with the people you love—take time to remember all the ways the Lord has blessed you, think of those less fortunate, and look for ways you can make a difference. I am so grateful to be your pastor, so grateful to be part of a body of believers who love to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is a privilege to worship and serve alongside you. Happy Thanksgiving! And we’ll see you soon—either in person or online!
