A Reponse to Racial Tensions
Posted in From the Pastor | By Shades Staff | Posted on Wed Jun 3, 2020
In light of the recent events that have taken place in our city and across our nation, we want to express clearly that Shades Mountain Baptist Church stands on the truth of God’s Word and condemns racism of any kind. We believe every human being is created in the image of God and therefore deserves dignity and respect.
In partnering with God and his work on earth, we as a church seek to be peacemakers among all people and ambassadors of Christ, who came to reconcile all people to God.
We pray with the psalmist, who says,
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23–24)

Our Summer Schedule

Sending transformed people to influence their world for Christ. That's what we're about. And that mission hasn't changed through nearly three months of social distancing and social isolation.
This week, Pastor Danny has some exciting things to share regarding how we'll return to in-person worship services. He also previews this Sunday's message. Take a look!
Changes to VBS & Student Camp 2020

Live Sent.
That's our aim, and Vacation Bible School 2020 takes on a new purpose in light of our mission and the current pandemic surrounding COVID-19.
VBS will not take place on campus later this summer.
Rather, we're encouraging families to sign up for a one-time event held in your home or yard throughout the month of July. The Sweet Life, VBS 2020, teaches kids the deep well of God's love by tasting and seeing the Lord is good. In the coming days, we'll share more information about how our preschool and children's ministries will equip families for this night, in addition to how our team will be involved!
We couldn't be more excited about how God will move in our homes and neighborhoods through VBS 2020. Stay tuned!
Our Mission Hasn't Changed
Posted in From the Pastor | By Shades Staff | Posted on Wed May 20, 2020
As many of us look ahead to the holiday weekend, we're reminded of our mission: Sending transformed people to influence their world for Christ. That remains, though the COVID-19 pandemic has altered how we engage our mission as a church.
In the video below, Pastor Danny reminds us to what we're called, honors those who've fought for freedom we didn't earn, and looks ahead to this Sunday. Take a minute to hear from your pastor!

Influencing our World for Christ

This past weekend, we participated in a Food Drive-Thru to help restock the food supply for Christian Service Mission. What an incredible experience! Not only was it such a blessing to see some 350 cars of smiling, waving people, it was an even greater blessing to see the amount of food you provided.
All in all, you gave 12,561 pounds of food. That's more than six tons of food which will go to feed thousands of individuals in the greater Birmingham area. The food drive is an expression of what it means to live sent. Through the simple act of buying and bringing food, you all showed the love of Christ in a real and tangible way.
